Technology in the singing studio

At York Centre for Singing Science various technologies are being developed to help us analyse the voice and also to be used as tools by singers to maximise their success as performers.

Educational projects are being developed exploiting the technology and research taking place in this area to advance both top level and in-school learning.

The Virtual Singing Studio

A Virtual Singing Studio has been developed in the Audio Lab to allow singers to hear themselves in a concert hall acoustic as they rehearse in the centre of a loudspeaker array in a practice room

WinSingad

WinSingad is a real-time visual display software which has been developed for use in the singing teaching studio allowing singers to ‘see’ the spectral content of their vocal output and analyse the impact of varying physical parameters in singing. This technology is being developed for extended applications as educational software for use in mainstream schools
